Juris Doctor in Law

The Juris Doctor program at The University of Mississippi meets the educational requirements for licensure in the state of Mississippi and other U.S. states, territories or the District of Columbia.

The program is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the American Bar Association (ABA). Upon graduation, students are eligible to apply for state bar exams. Individuals must meet state regulations, determined by occupational settings, for the state in which they wish to practice. Compliance with state regulatory requirements is mandatory, and the only avenue towards legal practice. The National Conference of Bar Examiners supplies information relative to individual state regulations. http://www.ncbex.org/

Should a graduate decide to apply for licensure in another state and need an institutional recommendation form completed for that state application, you may email the Law Registrar at lawregistrar@olemiss.edu to assist you with this process.

Some states may have additional requirements for licensure. Below are the links to the websites of the Board of Bar Examiners for each state to further explain what is required to practice law in those states.

*If the program has yet to determine whether the curriculum requirements are met for these states and US Territories, it will be labeled as does not meet until further notice. Please contact your program advisor/director for more information.
